What does membership mean?
Our members are our owners, and have a say in how TruChoice operates. All members are invited to attend our annual meeting, and we have an all volunteer Board of Directors. Since credit unions are not-for-profits, we don't have stockholders. Instead, profits are returned to members through lower fees, higher deposit rates and lower loan rates. Our lending criteria are more flexible, and we offer education and counseling for our members' financial wellness. Also, as a member you have access to insurance options through TruStage.
Are there special requirements to join?
Credit unions do have eligibility criteria depending on the groups or areas they serve. You can become a TruChoice member if,
- You live, work, worship, or attend school in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Oxford, Sagadahoc, Somerset, or York County in Maine.
- You have an immediate relative who's already a member
Once you're a member, you're a member for life. Even if you move outside the area, you still have access to everything TruChoice has to offer.
