Holiday Shopping Tips

Nov 03, 2021

Shop from trusted websites

Try to shop at websites you trust and have shopped at in the past. Read through customers reviews and confirm a business is legitimate by checking with the Better Business Bureau.  If you have an account for an online retailer, be sure to choose a strong password, so cybercriminals do not have easy access to your personal information.

If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is

With Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals right around the corner, shoppers are always on the look out for the best deals. When looking at deals, verify the website that is offering the product you want, and compare the price to other similar sellers.  It can be very tempting to try to get the lowest price possible, but you run the risk of your payment information being compromised, receiving counterfeit goods, damaged goods, or not receiving the product at all.

Pay with a credit card online

Saving your credit card information on a retailer’s website can be convenient, but it can also be risky. If the company has a data breach, your payment information could be in jeopardy. Taking the time to enter your card information manually with each transaction can give you more confidence that your payment information will be kept safe this holiday season.

Remember to only shop on secure websites, and don’t purchase items on public Wi-Fi.  Credit cards do offer you fraud protection on unauthorized purchases, but take these extra steps to be proactive with your security.

Shop early this year

If you want your gifts in time for the holidays, it is important to shop early this year. Supply chain issues and shipping delays have increased the time between a purchase online, and when you will receive the purchased item. Shopping earlier this year will reduce the stress of last-minute buying. You will be able to compare prices from different sources, and avoid potential price increases closer to the holidays.
